Three people are now standing trial in Argentina over the death of the pop singer, Liam Payne, who died on 16th October after falling off the fourth-floor balcony of a hotel in Buenos Aires.
Regarding the individual who accompanied Payne, the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office has charged him with abandonment resulting in death, as well as drug dealing and manufacturing. Also, the hotel employee and a third person were arrested for supply of drugs. They have not come out with their names.
Liam Payne, now 31, first found fame in the hit boy band One Direction in 2010, making him one of the top singers of the decade. Fans and people who knew him are in utter shock over his abrupt death; there has been an outpouring of emotional messages from his band members One Direction and his producer Simon Cowell. Tens of thousands showed their respects at memorials dedicated to Payne’s memory.
The last days of the singer in a CasaSur hotel became the subject of interest of Argentinian (sic) authorities. Hotel staff placed two emergency calls on the day of the incident and stated that Payne had ingested a lot of drugs and alcohol and was destroying all property in the room. After Payne’s demise, substances found by the police included drugs and alcohol as well as a wrecked room from the hotel.
A toxicological study elaborated on the concentrations of alcohol, and cocaine, and prescribed depression treatment in Payne, while a postmortem investigation established the cause of death to be a fall, with multiple injuries accompanied by internal and external bleeding. Doctors have suggested that Payne might have been in a state of somnolence or semi- or total coma, a fact that excluded premeditation.
Officials have questioned the nine locations in Buenos Aires, confiscating some equipment and watching over 800 hours of security tapes. They also pore over what is left of Payne’s laptop, which could maybe provide more clues about the man’s last moments. Currently, former bandmates Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, and Harry Styles have joined to state Payne’s death, describing it as heartbreaking and noting they will always cherish the memories with Payne.
While this investigation goes on, police are reconstructing the last moments of Payne’s life and the death of a man who helped millions.
