Japan’s Nihon Hidankyo Wins 2024 Nobel Peace Prize

Japanese organization, the Nihon Hidankyo, Enduring the Atomic Bomb, Hiroshima-Nagasaki, Aiming for Nuclear Abolition, sums up the recent Nobel Peace Prize laureate for the year 2024. The Norwegian Nobel Committee applauded the group for its vigorous attempts to show how severe nuclear suffering is and its desire for the extermination of nuclear weapons.

Toshiyuki Mimaki, co-chairman of Nihon Hidankyo, an organization for atomic bomb victims who himself survived the 1945 bombing of Hiroshima said he was surprised and thankful that non-Japanese recognized the sufferings of survivors of the nuclear attack and said the award would go a long way in strengthening the group’s determination to continue the struggle for the abolition of nuclear weapons all over the world. He stressed the elimination, of nuclear weapons toward achieving durable peace.

Referring to such tendencies, the committee’s chair Joergen Watne Frydnes warned nuclear nations not to underestimate the necessity of the common international norm against the use of nuclear arms in the contemporary world. He pointed to their speech the tendency to modernize nuclear capabilities amidst ongoing conflicts.

This will be the second time a Japanese national receives this Noble Peace Prize in the 123-year history of the prize and the awarding ceremony will be held on December 10 in Oslo.
